    Google Talk

Does anyone use Google Talk on a regular phone? I've read that you can use some kind of converter that lets you use Google Talk on a regular handset similar to what people have done with Skype. Supposedly this lets you use Google Talk on the phone instead of the computer.

I am trying to figure out why I would want to do that, when I am already talking to someone on the phone? Is there a way to save money by doing that?

I'm not sure what Google Talk is. Is that similar to Skype? If it is I imagine that you might want to use it to avoid using minutes on your phone. I'm not entirely sure how Google Talk works though.

I think it is similar to Skype and you do save your minutes. It's one way to make your minutes last longer every month.

Oh that would make sense then, if Google Talk saved you minutes. I have unlimited plans - talk, text and data plans so I wouldn't need to use it. I wondered why people used Google talk.

Google Talk is a free application. It's one of the voice over internet protocol technologies. I'm not sure how it works, but I don't think you need any other kind of phone service to use it. It's basically an alternative to Skype from what I can tell.

Actually it isn't Google Talk at all (as that is Google's instant messaging app) but Google Voice. You get a number of your choosing (as long as it is available) and you can use it how you see fit. There is also a way to make calls from your Google Voice number so that will be what goes across the caller ID.

We have vonage here so I have never used it but a few friends of mine have and said there were never issues that they noticed. When I am talking to them on it I do not hear anything on my end either.

You actually get a separate phone number that someone can call? So, then how would it be possible to use that on a phone that you already have?

I use Gtalk on my computer but not very often. I have some friends that use it so I made an account for myself, this way we can talk more often. I'm pleased with the audio quality but other that that it's not very different form other instant messengers.
