Unhappy frustrated new smartphone user - how do I stop running data?

How can I stop running programs on my Fusion/Huawei u8652 ?

I hardly go online with my phone at all but after 5 days of having it, I'm 160% over my data limit. How do I stop auto updates and programs from running (like google maps, etc)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Slim!

You can turn off data under Settings->Wireless and Networks->Mobile Networks-> Uncheck Data Enabled. You can activate it when you want to use it. Also, check some of your apps. They may have options for turning auto updating on and off. I always kept my GPS turned off at all times unless I was actually using it. Hope this helps...I know data overages can be ridiculously expensive. I've been there too!

    thanks much!

Thanks much jstep. I'll try your settings (although I did stop my programs but they restart automatically). I'm such a newb, I may just call Huawei support and have them walk me through it. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Darn google maps app and software updates...

I appreciate the reply/help. I'm embarrassed to say but I'm a Technical Support Specialist at a lawfirm. No smartphone experience though, just electronic document data... lol!

Yep...just turning off data should keep your usage in check and help avoid big surprises when the bill arrives

If you need a quicker way to do that, you can always download a program like Widgetsoid, which will enable you to put Mobile data switch on your homescreen, as a widget.

You can go to settings > wireless networks > mobile networks and then disable it from there. It may be slightly different for you.

To stop apps updating automatically, you can go to the "My Apps" section of the play store, tap the app to view it, then uncheck the box for allowing auto updates. You will still get a notification that there is a update for that app but it won't download automatically.

    I hope I have helped!
