    Can you tether with Verizon?

My friend is thinking of switching to Verizon but is hesitant because with their Sprint phone they can root it and then tether it as a Wifi hotspot free. Can you do the same thing with Verizon?

I believe you can USB tether, depending on your data plan. I know the wireless tether plan is $30 if you want to purchase it. Carriers are getting smart so you can root and tether they will log how many ip address your devices uses send you a message and add wireless tether to your plan.

Depends on the phone, on my Incredible, I could, with the Droid 3, you have to install CM9 first.

Techno, was it free and were you connecting wirelessly or USB? I will have to let my friend know it is a possibility depending on the phone because they would really like to switch carriers.

You need to be rooted and install a wireless tether, since I was rooted, it was free with the correct app. It is wireless.

Right, he has his Sprint phone rooted and has an app that allows him to tether free. I will let him know that it is the same with Verizon, depending on the phone he chooses. The app is probably the same or at least similar to what he has now.
